Dear Rose,
I appreciate your tip. Where do you find the Financial Emergency grant, I've been looking through government grant sites, and haven't seen it. Also, idid apply for heating assistance and was given a $400 one time grant, I was three months behind at that time, and they told me there was nothing else available to me. I'll be almost three months behind again at the end of this month increasing my bill another $253.00.
We need alot of help at our house. I'm trying to keep the pieces together, but I don't know where to turn anymore.
Thanks for writing,
Brian

I have some advice that may help. I take it by your statement that your self employed without insurance. If you have any insurance on credit cards, use it, that's what it's there for. Contact St. Vincent DePaul, they'll vote on your situation, and possibly pay up to $400.00 of your rent, or $50 twoard a utility bill. If you are working for someone you should be able to get temporary disability if you can't perform your job. The Moderate needs Foundation will help with up to $500 if they deem your situation appropriate to their help model. It takes about 14 days. And there is here. If someone can help they will. Also, if your a homeowner, some policies offer temporary assistance if your situation fits the bill. You have to do some research though, and fill out allot of forms so be prepared! I've gone through everything I could've never imagined, and still have multiple problems I'm dealing with. Once you get sick from anything major it sets your whole life in a spin. Recovering from one or two things isn't bad, it's when your health fails, and you get into the seeking public aid sector everything falls apart. It's like they punish you for being sick, and don't want you to maintain or keep anything you worked for in order to get help. There is no justice there. Good luck in your quest. And if you have any questions feel free to message me here at aidmates. Brian
Bebe,
I wish you the best!, I've had the hardest year of my life, and still having massive problems financially, and health wise. A week and a half ago, I finally got my disability insurance reinstated to age 65, am still having problems with trying to get Social Security and Medicare, (which by the way will back pay your bills I found out once approved). And found out that I'll probably be in a wheel chair in the next five years due to my spine eroding in the lumbar region. There are days I feel like giving up, then I tell myself that I can't give up, I have too much to live for yet. My kids, art that I dream about creating still, poems I haven't written yet, and people that are yet to be met!. I know how difficult each day is. I'm in pain 24/7, no breaks! I sleep 1-2 hours, than I'm up for a few again, all I have to do is move wrong in my sleep, and voila' time to get up again. There are days I feel like a zombie, but I distract myself with creative endeavors, or sit outside in the wee morning hours with the dog for awhile, and think about what I can try the next day to get through. Last week our car was taken, I had a ton of extra expenses due to the timing of how my check came, and the way it cam in bits and pcs. at times and goofed up my auto pays. I did that to save time and money, and it cost me hundreds in fees instead. (basically my car payment each month or more, even when I called and told them to hold of, they went ahead.) I've learned I have to cancel those things, and try to keep myself on track better or get involved with some sort of budget program, it's pretty much destroyed my chances for credit again for the next few years, and it's my fault. I know it is, I don't think as well as I used to and forget things constantly. This has cost me and my family. So now I'm writing everything down, and keeping it in one place, so I can find it.
Take care,
Brian
Your welcome Becky. This road we travel has many bumbs. But you do meet a number of very nice people that can put a new twist on things sometimes. I wish you all the luck, and I'll keep you posted as I hope you will also.
Brian
Hang tough Becky! It's hard I know about constantly trying to seek answers, and stay afloat. Try the Modest Needs Foundation, and the Evander Holifeid Foundation. I'm trying them now, EH Foundation, they took three months to get back to me about having sent a request, and told me 45 days to a decision, so you need to be patient. Something I think you've already found is a big tool in life. Modest Needs answers requests, wihin about 20 days or so.
Good Luck, and take care,
Brian Tolbert

Car's Gone!
I bought food, medications, and paid what I could twoard rent to help my mom. As she pointed out a roofs more important. We need more angels, than I could ever imagine. Still no word from Social Security, and Medicaid is under review again. I must be driving them crazy. They sent me a letter saying I was turned down again, but could have access if I paid out $11,000 a year in deductible. Gee I wonder who does the math in Washington. My disability is about $16,500 a year. That would leave us $4500 if we didn't have to live! Is the system broken? I'm beginning to believe so. I can only imagine the hardships others go through, and it scares me.

Medication Expenses for Mr. Tolbert on a monthly basis based on current costs are in the amount of $1430.82 when covered by medicaid or other insurance. He has not had any coverage since 01/01/2006, and has had difficulties remaining on Medicaid due to his disability income of $1486.00/month from his insurer. This is $200.00 a month over the limit set by Milwaukee County DSS, 1220 Vliet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53205. Case #8120372387, Worker #XMII67. As you can see his medicines exceed his income, and he is considered indigent at this time while he awaits approval for SSI benefits and Medicare. At present he is getting samples of some of his medications from his physicians, and paying out of pocket for others. His needs are extreme due to his present health.

I've been doing everything on your list. I've recieved very little in help, but it's always appreciated. The car was repoed last week, and two days later my disability insurer reapproved me until age 65, and told me they aren't going to bother me with records collection anymore. In the meantime, I've lost my ability to think. Just too much stuff all the time. The insurer has also now ired Genex to help me with Social Security to try and finally get that resolved. I haven't had any me time until tonight. So here I am, answering you. Since I first became ill, it's been lick having an icepick chisel at everything you built for yourself and future until you feel like it's impossible to try and have one. I just keep plugging along. The kids keep me sane, although I've tried on occaison to fill the hole in my heart with another, but have found that people in different walks and experiences look at you like you just want someone to save them, or pick up the pcs. Or become some kind of piggy bank. I'm here as part of my fending mechanism. It's the first place I found any help, and that was thanks to my doctors suggestion. I have been turned down by so many programs due to income, what they don't make room for is the fact it vaporizes due to medical expenses, kids, and keeping a roof over your head. I'd been through hard times 5 times before, the difference was I didn't have a family, had better health, and could always find ways to keep going. I'm just getting burned out by all these added adventures lately. I could really use a hug from another adult once in awhile, and someone who's ear I could bend for a bit. Thanks for writing.

Dear Darlene,
Have you tried the school financial aid officer? They might have some direction for you. Also, Modest Needs foundation, Catholic Charities, and United Way, are good doors to knock on. If I had anything else to offer other than advice I'd do it. It's hard getting through school without family support when your on own, and even harder with kids. Good Luck in your quest, I hope you find what you need.
Brian
I understand you situation completely. When I first went on my heart meds I was very forgetful for awhile. My ex-wife closed our joint accounts, and put all the money under her name. Then we divorced and went through bankruptcy. She got the best of me, but I didn't fight it, my kids are more important to me than anything or anyone else in the world. For me standing back, and compromising has given me the oppourtuinity to be with them more than most fathers in my situation. Your situation is much tougher the way things have gone for you. I hope that you folks get the attorney you need. (A Barracuda perhaps). And that everything works out. It seems like when your down more people take advantage of you than when your at full strength, and that's the hardest part about being disabled or sick in anyway. Good Luck in your Quest!
Sincerely,
Brian
I've never had it so hard, as I'm sure is your position also. Try Modest Needs foundation on the web, as well as your resource here. I found some help there also. Life is so hard when your living a normal life. It's those darn bumps that get you.
Brian
I thought my kids would feel that way at one time, but they've been awesome, despite the increase in different needs. My daughter Katya is 9, and my son Pieter is 6. I can't do it all, and we've talked about it. I found the best approach is to just take a deep breath, sit down and let them know what's happening. When they start to talk I take the time to listen and continue on. They want all the stuff other kids do, but mainly they just want to hang out with you. So when I'm with them I make sure I'm accessible, and answer all the questions they have. Patience helps. I've had so much happen to me over the years, that I've learned to make adjustments on a daily basis, give myself some time to think. And go back to looking for resources, and taking care of the kids as best as I can. I know I can't do all the things other parents do. Good luck,
Brian
The Small Business Administration has tons of loan and grant opp's for you. You have to go to the courses they offer, but they will help. Also I think the NOW has some things for you also.
Brian
To All at Aidpages,
I and my family thankyou for the $115.00 in pledges collected twoard our heating bill. This journey we're on due to my health has shown us that many people out there still care about their neighbors. I was ready to give up hope before I came here. I've found some help and new friends, andalthough we still have a great path before us, we have found some help, understanding, and caring here. We appreciate relief of any kind, and have found new energy in the quest for survival thanks to everyone that's pledged or written us. We value your support, and hope to pay it forward when the day arrives that we clear everything up and I get some of my health back.
Thank you
Brian Tolbert and family
I understand Arthritis and it's effects all too well. I've turned down the medications for it myself, and try anelgesics. I have too many other health problems, and too many drug interactions. A friend of mine suggested the Arthritis foundation.
They have literature about alot of things that my offer some relief for you. I have looked into clinacal studies also. Sometimes they offer new medicines. It's hard enough to function after you hit a certain point in life. I wish I could offer you more, but we're in dire straights at our house at the moment. Good Luck in your quest. Brian
There are many things that could help you out there. You should be applying between now and July. If you apply in August you may not have help before the Fall Semester.
1)Pell Grants through the college you apply to. They're probably the easiest way to go based on your situation. And don't have to be repaid.
2)Student Loans, I heard the agh! all the way over here. Once you take out a loan there are places on campuses you can work them off. If you go into education you can check into loan forgiveness. I don't know the terms, but the Dept. of Education can help you there.
3)The usual part-time job system. Again, many are on campus, and pay $8.00/hr+, these are usually flexible with your class schedule. The other choice is to find out what fellow students are doing, and what works for them once you get there.
4)And then there's here, it's a good place to start.
You should include what your thinking about doing in school, and what schools your thinking of. It may help create some of the opportuinites your seeking here. Many professional organizations offer education assistance packages, and paid internships also.
Good Luck!
I don't know about the grant you speak of, but I'd try some of the single parent sites, and computer donations that are listed on;ine. If nothing else the computer manufacturers offer financing from 22/month on up, and there's a site called MyComputerClub.com that's around $50/month. Personally, I bid on ebay for my son for christmas for one and got it for 19.00, it works great, the shipping and handling was $35.00 though. I have bought computers at rummage sales for friends for as little as $15, they aren't powerful, but for kids they work fine.
Brian
Hi,
There are accesability loans and grants listed on disabled.com for equipment and home repair grant and loan ideas. You may wish to start there. I'm having a heck of a time myself, and understand alot about what your feeling at the moment. If I had money I would offer assistance of another sort, and I'm sorry I don't right now. Good Luck, and God Bless!
Brian
Dear Krista,
Thank you for your message of heartfelt feelings. And ditto.....
You sound like a very warm and kind person. If I had a way to help you I would do the same also. Children are the great awakeners.
Brian
I need financial assistance for medical bills, medicines, utilities, and groceries from time to time. I've had 3 heart attacks, congestive heart failure, Chronic Fatigue syndrome, arthritis, 7 slipped and herniated disks, and spinal stenosis. Any help or advice is welcome. I have 2 small children that I actually share 50/50 with my ex wife. I'm on disability, and can't make ends meet.
thanks, briantolbert@sbcglobal.net
